Chile’s Energy Secretary announces pilot program for renewables in Native community

Chile’s Secretary of Energy Sergio Del Campo announced the launch of a pilot program for the implementation of renewable energy generation for the Traiguén Indian community in the Araucanía Region.

The pilot program is part of a transfer agreement of the Ministry of Energy to Fosis and the City of Traiguén, which has a total of more than USD 32 million to be invested in the installation of various technical solutions to domestic activities, productive and community service.
“It is very important what we have seen today about how the community has joined the non-conventional renewable energy and energy efficiency. We are seeing here a remarkable example of what can make a Mapuche community is perfectly replicated in the rest of the country. This is an example of how Chile can work and live with renewable energy,” Del Campo said.
