Energy Ministry to build community power plants across country

BANGKOK, 8 June 2012 (NNT) – The Energy Ministry has joined hands with the private sector in planning to construct community power plants across the country, adding that the nuclear power plant plans is still unclear.

During an academic seminar and exhibition on green energy for Thai farmers, Energy Minister Arak Chonlatanon said that 500 power plants will be constructed in communities across the nation under the alternative energy plan. He explained that, within 10 years, these plants are targeted to produce 25 percent of the nation’s electricity supply.

Mr Arak said the community plants will be small and built from local materials. Each is aimed to produce 500 megawatts of electricity and will be co-owned by the locals.
