School gets £120,000 solar technology
Computers and classrooms at a Maidenhead school will be powered by green energy after £120,000 of solar technology was placed on the roof.
The huge network of 192 panels will provide energy savings for Desborough School during term time – and generate cash for the panel supplier during the holidays.
Dan Jacoby, a community governor leading the school’s solar project said: “Desborough is now a very switched on place.
“We are leading secondary schools in Maidenhead to be solar powered.”
He said the agreement with British Gas Solar and its charity Energy for Tomorrow makes the school the largest green energy generator in the Royal Borough.
About 150 computers will be powered by the panels and students will have a continuous display screen showing how much of the 43kW they are generating at any one time and the cumulative CO2 they have saved.
