UK: Construction begins at 6.9MW Loch Carnan community wind farm in Northern Scotland

Storas Uibhist, a wholly owned subsidiary of the community based company Sealladh na Beinne Mòire, has begun the initial construction works at the 6.9MW Loch Carnan wind farm in Isle of South Uist, in the Outer Hebrides, in Northern Scotland.
Civil engineering group R J Mcleod has begun the construction of access roads for the community wind farm.
The Loch Carnan wind farm will consist of three Enercon 2.3MW wind turbines, which will be installed later this year. The power generated from the wind farm will be sold to the national grid and the profit generated will be re-invested in the community.
The £10.5 million wind farm got planning consent in May 2009, but managed to secure grid connection offer from Scottish and Southern Energy only in 2010
